Bavaria

About Bavaria

Under the leadership of the Swinkels family, Bavaria has been brewing beer in Lieshout, Brabant, for seven generations, following a unique family recipe. Since 1719, the brewery has guaranteed the best quality. The use of pure ingredients forms the foundation of this quality; that's why Bavaria brews with natural mineral water from its own source and malts its own barley.

The brewery 'De Kerkdijk' in Lieshout was first mentioned in 1719. Here, the Moorees family crafted beer on a small scale, likely since 1680. In 1764, descendants of one of the daughters, who married a Swinkels, took over the brewery.

While many small-scale breweries struggled, the Swinkels family managed to endure by continuously adapting to market changes. A pivotal decision came in 1925 when the Swinkels brothers decided to transition to bottom-fermented beer (pilsner), which was uncommon at the time. This move prepared the brewery for a successful future.

Since 1773, the brewery has remained continuously owned by the Swinkels family. As of spring 2014, Bavaria is entirely managed by members of the seventh generation. Including its well-known ancestors, the company has been in family ownership for ten generations, making it one of the oldest family businesses in the Netherlands.

The Project

Bavaria Family Brewers commissioned Labolutions to replace their old QC laboratory (Quality Control) with a new, modern lab setup. The project involved designing and delivering the new laboratory in close collaboration with the technical manager of Bavaria Family Brewers and their preferred (sub)contractors. It was carried out as a turn-key project, aiming to create the most efficient and safe laboratory in cooperation with the lab manager and stakeholders.

The new laboratory had to meet the highest standards and project a professional image. Just as the family takes pride in all its beers, production facilities, and employees, they are equally proud of the new QC laboratory, which ensures the highest standards and quality of all their beers 24/7.

The major challenge in this project was relocating and transferring the existing laboratory, along with its associated lab equipment and analyzers, to a temporary laboratory 50 meters away for a few months. The move was completed over a single weekend while ensuring the 24/7 continuity of daily analyses and controls. Following the move, the construction, technical installations, and new installations were carried out. This entire relocation process was meticulously and professionally managed under the leadership and coordination of Jeroen Ras, in collaboration with all lab stakeholders and third parties.
