The founding of Labolutions

The establishment of Labolutions began with the vision of Ivano Zuliani, the founder, who was inspired in 2008 during meetings of the Knowledge Alliance. These meetings brought together the province of South Holland, various municipalities, and knowledge institutions to promote innovation and create synergy in the region. These events motivated Ivano to apply his knowledge and experience for sustainable development. Ivano has personal ties with Herman Wijffels, a prominent advocate for sustainability and social change. The urgency of a circular economy became clear, and Ivano wanted to contribute by leveraging his skills, expertise, and network.

Key questions for Ivano included: How can we make laboratories more sustainable and safer? How can we make research more affordable and accessible for startups, growing companies, and established institutions? What are the future needs of laboratories and R&D facilities to foster innovation? How will the “sharing economy” impact laboratories, universities, and incubators? With these questions in mind, Ivano decided to use his knowledge and network to promote safe and sustainable research. At the end of 2009, Ivano founded Labolutions.

Stronger together

Since 2022, Labolutions B.V. has been part of the Alexilum Group B.V. and has become a sister company of Labs31 B.V. Labs31 is a young and innovative engineering firm specializing in laboratory planning and design. Labs31 stands out by integrating lab equipment into BIM Revit models. Labolutions and Labs31 operate independently but work closely together when requested by the client. This collaboration has made Labolutions even more innovative in designing and engineering laboratory projects. It also provides extra support for back-office operations by optimizing internal and external processes for you as a customer.

Our location

Sustainable Paris Proof office location

Labolutions is located in the first Paris Proof building in the Netherlands, Biopartner 5. Designed by architects Popma Ter Steege Architects (PTSA), the layered building is a rich collage of pioneering solutions for circular architecture. Large-scale reuse of building materials is combined with an aesthetic design that embodies the transition to a zero-waste world. In Q4 2024, Labolutions will complete the world’s first smart and interactive laboratory project at the Biopartner 5 building.

Leiden Bio Science Park

Leiden Bio Science Park is the largest life sciences park in the Netherlands and ranks among the top 5 Life Science Biotech clusters in Europe. It serves as an innovation district for startups, scale-ups, SMEs, institutional organizations, and multinationals. The park fosters collaboration between companies and knowledge institutions, offering access to knowledge, innovation, talent, capital, and markets.

With a strong focus on accelerating the development of biosciences and health through shared facilities and an active ecosystem, the park stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship. Labolutions B.V. has been part of this innovative park since its inception.
