Main benefits

  • Wide temperature range: from standard laboratory freezer (around –25 °C) to ULT freezer –86 °C (BioUltra series) for long-term sample preservation.
  • Forced-air circulation and smart defrost functions (model dependent) for constant temperature even with a full load.
  • ATEX Cat. 3 Zone 2 – internally and externally certified for storing volatile or flammable substances (explosion-proof use).
  • Energy-efficient cooling system with natural refrigerants (R290/R600a) for lower operating costs and sustainable lab operation.
  • User-friendly MPC or EVO controller with alarms, data logging and product temperature sensor for GMP/GLP and 21 CFR Part 11 environments.
  • Flexible shelving and drawer configurations to optimise the internal chamber for different sample formats.

Quick selection guide

  • General lab storage down to –25 °C? Choose a BioPlus or BioMidi laboratory freezer.
  • Ultra-low temperature storage down to –86 °C? Choose BioUltra (ULT laboratory freezer).
  • Limited space or small batches? Choose a Biocompact II freezer model.
  • Hazardous or explosive atmosphere? Consider ExGuard in freezer configuration for ATEX zones.
  • Need traceability and validation? Go for an EVO version with logging and external alarm contact.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a laboratory freezer and a ULT freezer?

A standard laboratory freezer typically operates around –20/–25 °C and is suitable for everyday materials. A ULT freezer (Ultra-Low Temperature freezer) goes down to –80/–86 °C and is intended for highly sensitive or long-term samples such as vaccines, DNA, cell stocks or reference collections.

When do I need an ATEX or explosion-proof freezer?

Choose an ATEX freezer or explosion-proof laboratory freezer if your lab works with flammable or volatile substances or is classified as a hazardous area (Zone 2). Gram ExGuard freezers are certified internally and externally for this purpose.

Can the interior be adapted?

Yes, Gram BioLine freezers offer flexible interiors. Shelves, wire baskets and stainless-steel drawers can be configured to match your packaging (cryoboxes, bottles, blood bags or sample trays).

How is the temperature monitored?

Most models feature visual and audible alarms, a product temperature probe and a potential-free alarm contact for connection to building management or remote monitoring. EVO versions add data logging and export for audits.
